Syon Park's Charity of the Year 2024

We are DELIGHTED to share with you our new Charity of the Year!

THE BRENTFORD PENGUINS FC ! 🐧

Started in 2017, the Brentford Penguins FC is a football club for children with Down's Syndrome, run by former professional footballer Allan Cockram (who played for both Brentford FC and Tottenham Hotspur), his wife, Vickie Cockram, and some amazing volunteers. 🐧

They run weekly outdoor training sessions which are open to boys and girls with Down's syndrome aged 5 and over who want to learn and practice their football skills such as passing, dribbling and shooting whilst also improving their balance, coordination and agility.
Penguins FC are supported by Brentford Football Club as well as Down's Syndrome Active. They are also affiliated with the Middlesex FA and the Special Olympics.🐧

The Club also helps promote and educate the wider community about Down’s Syndrome through school visits and presentations.🐧

The Penguins provide a friendly family atmosphere where everyone can feel accepted and not isolated within their community by having a support network for parents, siblings and friends. 🐧

Recently founder Allan Cockram was awarded an 'unsung hero' award at the Who Cares Wins ceremony in London, and was surprised at Brentford GTech Stadium by David Beckham, who presented his award, and Romeo Beckham (who plays for Brentford FC B team!).
The Penguins have been on The One Show, and This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, and even went viral on social media, with one of the team member's proposals and chat up lines for Alison! 🐧

We will be working with the Penguins throughout the year, raising awareness, funds and having fun! 🐧

SYON BARK! - 11th March 2023 - a doggy day in the gardens

On Saturday 11th March, we opened our gardens to dogs for the second time. It was a special event in aid of Wood Green Pets Charity (you may have seen them on Channel 4's The Dog House)

We had a wonderful turn-out and met some fabulous woofers! They were all so well-behaved and stayed on their leads as they walked around the beautiful grounds and the lake. We gave out lots of treats (and poo bags) and had such an amazing response from all the owners. Thank you so much for coming!  We also met the lovely people from Vetsure Pet Insurance, and Furbabies Botanicals. And the rain kept off all day! Here's some photos of your perfect pooches.

Summertime Fun 2022 - Friday Fables!

 Friday Fables

We had a wonderful time in the gardens during the school holidays!

Every Friday, set in the Natural Play Areas in the private gardens of Syon Park, our storytellers; Sarah, Linda, Fiona and Christine engaged audiences of young and old with fables and tales based on nature, history, myth and legend.

Participation was highly recommended, with active play, music and crafts during the sessions, and even a English Civil War reinactment!

Each session lasted approximately an hour, starting at 11am and repeated at 2pm. It was in conjunction with Hounslow Summer of Culture, and we had visitors from all over the borough and beyond! It was such a success, we're hoping to repeat it!

Week 1 - The Queen Bee's Hat - making flower crowns from foraged flowers and leaves

Week 2 - Algy and Charles - civil war reinactment with balloon swords

Week 3 - Ceres and Proserpine - making ribbon wands, music and dancing around Flora's statue

Week 4 - Medusa - archaeology session and bracelet making

Week 5 - the Listening Tree - decorating branches with seeded paper leaves

Week 6 - The Enchanted Woodland - making Star wands with bells and ribbons, music and movement
