After a feast of colour in the Ante Room, the white and gold of the Dining Room has an almost cleansing effect and indeed a style that Adam copied from France. Adam`s remarks about French dining rooms were that "Instead of being hung with damask tapestry, etc., they are always finished with stucco, and adorned with statues and paintings that they may not retain the smell of the victuals". Marble statues representing the mythological gods and goddesses of food and wine look out over the room. In the mid 18th century, the long rectangular dinner table was only present in the room when meals were required.
