In 1824, the 3rd Duke of Northumberland ordered the removal of the collection of 100 prints from the walls, but this room has retained its name to the present day. It now accommodates a magnificent collection of portraits of many of the people who contributed to the history of Syon. These include the portrait of Lady Jane Grey now thought to be an early and rare portrait of Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth I). The stunning portrait of Joseph Brant, the celebrated chieftain of the Mohawk tribe by the American artist, Gilbert Stuart and Hugh Smithson, 1st Duke of Northumberland by Thomas Gainsborough. Other family portraits include the 9th and 10th Earls of Northumberland and George Percy who helped to found Jamestown in Virgiania.
