Hughes supplied a new 'Polonese Bedstead' for Princess Victoria's bedroom. The same blue silk taberet was used for the hangings embellished with the half circle gold gimp and restrained tassels in each corner. Each bed had three mattresses, the lower of straw, the second of horsehair or wool and the top layer, known as the bed rather than the mattress, filled with chicken or goose feathers.
