Employment Opportunities - Seasonal Function Managers- Commencing March/ April 2012 for the season until October 2012. Syon House is seeking to recruit two SEASONAL FUNCTION MANAGERS to work in one of London’s most beautiful stately homes supporting its busy summer season of functions and events. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated new team members to manage weddings and corporate functions. The postholders would also deal with venue enquiries, conduct site-visits and liaise with trusted suppliers. Ideally the applicants will need to have had experience in an events role, preferably in a heritage or hospitality industry related background. An eye for detail and a proven record in dealing with clients is highly desirable. A quick thinking team player with a flexible approach to an ever-changing environment is ideal. Charming Gate Stewards and SIA security guard - Starting March/ April 2012 until early October 2012. The Syon Function & Events team are looking to recruit some charming GATE STEWARDS to welcome guests to events, and direct traffic primarily on Friday, Saturday and some Sunday afternoons. There may be the possibility of some weekday working too. Also required is a suitably professional and qualified SIA security guard for weekend, evening parties. Interested? The Wildflower 5km Walk in aid of Cancer Research UK. - Join us for a sponsored walk in the grounds of Syon Park. You can start any time between 10.30am and 3pm, (last walkers start at 3pm). Take as long as you like to enjoy the House, the beautiful gardens and the picturesque Thames riverside, or time yourself round doing some ‘power walking’ - the choice is yours. Bring your friends and family, benefit from the exercise and raise money for a great cause at the same time! The Wild Flower Walk (previously known as The Bluebell Walk) has been an annual event since 1997. All are welcome, regular walkers and new entrants alike. The ticket price for Adults £10.50, Concessions £8.00, children £4.00 and families £22.00 includes entrance to Syon House. There is ample free parking available. Archaeology - Training Excavation and Community Dig - SYON PARK : TRAINING EXCAVATION AND COMMUNITY DIG. JUNE 25th – JULY 22nd 2012. ‘In conjunction with the Museum of London, the 2012 excavation in Syon Park will focus on the area of Sir Richard Wynne’s house, close to the London Road. The house featured in the ‘Battle of Brentford’, which took place late in 1641 as Royalist troops advancing on London under Prince Rupert, battled against Parliamentary forces attempting to resist their approach on the capital. Sir Richard Wynne’s house was demolished in the 19th century and the archaeological investigation will provide the opportunity to investigate the remains of the dwelling and its environs. The site is also close to the main Roman highway to the west of Britain and evidence might be encountered of contemporary roadside settlement. The training excavation will provide two structured five-day courses, (June 25th -29th and July 2nd -6th), suitable both for beginners and more experienced archaeologists, covering aspects of site survey, excavation and recording. The community dig, (July 9th - 22nd inclusive), will provide opportunities for all who are interested, of any age, to come to the site for short periods, (perhaps for half a day at a time), to have a taste of archaeological excavation.’ For more information please email communityarchaeology@museumoflondon.org.uk

Is Syon House Haunted? - Hear the terrible tales of horrible history and decide for yourself........... From the time of Syon Abbey, which was destroyed by Henry VIII, the imprisonment of his 5th wife Catherine Howard before her execution, to the story of the doomed Lady Jane Grey, there are many reasons why Syon could be haunted. Paranormal specialists have given their own opinions as well as Syon staff over the years. What will you believe? Come and join us for one of our ghostly tours here at Syon House on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th October. Professional Psychic Medium and Paranormal Research Investigator Carole Bromley will be joining us once again. Tickets will be available nearer the time. Booking is essential as spaces are limited. Not suitable for anyone under 16 years of age. More details to be announced shortly.

The Enchanted Woodland. - Following the success of 2011 Syon Park is again illuminating the gardens and Great Conservatory for the 7th Annual Enchanted Woodland so wrap up warm and join us. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only from Friday 16th November to Sunday 2nd December. Open from 5.00pm to 9.00pm with last entry at 8.00pm. Tickets only £7.00 for adults and £3.00 for children which will be available nearer the time. Check flickr.com, Syon Enchanted, for some great pictures from previous years. Warm clothing and stout footwear is advisable and photography is positively encouraged. Please note: with the exception of assistance dogs, we regret dogs cannot be allowed onto the trail or into the gardens. Refreshments will be availble to purchase each evening.
